The production of Stellantis in Italy fell by 37% last year, according to data from the FIM-CISL union, totaling 475,090 vehicles produced, down from the 751,384 recorded in 2023.
The figures revealed by the union represent a 46% drop in the production of light passenger cars, the lowest level since 1956, while the production of light commercial vehicles decreased by 17%.
It should be noted that Stellantis, still under the leadership of Carlos Tavares, resorted several times to layoffs throughout 2024 to address the overproduction capacity in Italy, driven by the decline in demand, particularly for electric vehicles, as well as the pressure from competition from Chinese manufacturers.
After Carlos Tavares’ resignation, Stellantis presented a plan to increase production in December, but the anticipated increase is not expected until 2026, when the group plans to launch new models produced in its factories in Italy.
It should also be noted that Stellantis has five production units in Italy, including one dedicated to the production of commercial vehicles.
