A civil court in Turin, Italy, has deemed a class action against Stellantis admissible, concerning potentially defective airbags manufactured by the Japanese supplier Takata.
According to “Reuters,” which cites two consumer protection organizations from Italy, owners of affected vehicles have 150 days to join the class action, with the court hearing on the case postponed to November 21.
The same source reports that Stellantis has acknowledged the court’s decision, stating in a release that it is working “tirelessly” on the recall campaign and reserves “the right to consider any appropriate initiative in the context of ongoing proceedings”.
It is worth noting that in 2024, Stellantis launched a recall campaign due to issues with Takata airbags affecting a total of 415,000 Citroen C3 and DS 3 models produced between 2009 and 2019 and located in 24 different countries across Southern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. By the end of 2024, Stellantis announced that it had already replaced 302,000 airbags in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
