Stellantis announced this Wednesday that it has acquired a stake in SteerLight, a company that develops the next generation of high-performance LiDAR sensors, in order to strengthen its position in the market and ensure access to crucial technology for autonomous driving. The value of the investment, made through Stellantis Ventures, was not disclosed.SteerLight is a company born from the public research center for micro and nanotechnology in France, CEA-Leti, based in Grenoble, which claims that its LiDAR solutions are more compact and less expensive to produce than competing products. The group, which owns several automotive brands, argues that SteerLight’s technology has the potential to provide drivers of future Stellantis brand vehicles with better performance in a variety of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including autonomous driving.
