Spire Motorsports is making significant moves ahead of the 2025 NASCAR season, adding two veteran names to its competition staff in a bid to elevate its performance. Matt McCall, a seasoned crew chief, and Dax Gerringer, a highly experienced race engineer, have joined the organization, signaling its ambitious plans for the upcoming season.

Matt McCall: Director of Vehicle Performance

Matt McCall, who most recently served as the crew chief for Brad Keselowski’s No. 6 Ford at RFK Racing, has been appointed Spire’s director of vehicle performance. McCall brings a wealth of experience and a longstanding relationship with Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson.

“This is a great addition for our team and one that means a lot to me personally,” Dickerson shared. “Matt is a longtime friend and one of the first NASCAR clients I had as a young agent. We’ve always shared the same vision for how race cars and race teams should operate. I’m thrilled we finally get to work together.”

McCall expressed excitement about his new role, emphasizing his trust in Dickerson’s leadership and vision for the team.

“Spire Motorsports’ upward trajectory has been impressive, and I’m excited to be part of that success,” McCall said. “I’ve known Jeff for over 25 years, and the timing was finally right for us to join forces.”

Dax Gerringer: Technical Director

Dax Gerringer joins Spire Motorsports as technical director after a successful nine-season stint with Stewart-Haas Racing, where he most recently worked as a race engineer on the No. 4 team led by crew chief Rodney Childers. Gerringer’s arrival marks the second high-profile hire from SHR, with Childers already signed as crew chief for Spire’s No. 7 car.

Gerringer is eager to bring his expertise to Spire Motorsports.

“The team atmosphere Jeff has built and the support I felt from management were major factors in my decision,” Gerringer explained. “With over 20 years in the sport and 34 Cup Series wins, my goal is to help Spire deliver the best possible product on the track.”

Expanding Roster and Ambitious Plans

Spire Motorsports will field three entries in 2025:

  • No. 7 Chevrolet: Driven by Justin Haley, paired with Rodney Childers.
  • No. 71 Chevrolet: Piloted by Michael McDowell with crew chief Travis Peterson.
  • No. 77 Chevrolet: Carson Hocevar remains the driver with Luke Lambert as crew chief.

These additions reflect Spire’s commitment to growth and performance, with a focus on building a cohesive, experienced team.

A Rising Contender

Spire Motorsports has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, and the addition of McCall and Gerringer underscores its ambition to compete at a higher level in 2025. By investing in proven talent and expanding its infrastructure, Spire is positioning itself as a serious contender in the NASCAR Cup Series.

With a strengthened leadership team and a competitive driver lineup, Spire is looking to make significant strides in the upcoming season, proving its commitment to long-term success in the sport.
