Smart has announced a free over-the-air (OTA) update that enhances the #5 in many areas. The brand claims, primarily, significant developments in connectivity and comfort, with simpler access to driving assistance settings, a more capable voice assistant, and a greater number of multimedia options.
Among the improved features is direct access to the active speed limit alert settings – it can be found in the Driving Settings button, and by double-tapping this button, the settings defined for various driving preferences and assistance systems are automatically adjusted. Additionally, the new traffic sign recognition feature allows choosing between active speed limit alerts or just visual, visual and sound, or off. This eliminates the need to adjust each assistant before the start of each trip.
Another new feature is the explanation of vehicle functions through the voice assistant. Thus, instead of searching for all information in manuals or menus, the assistant, responding to the driver’s questions and after consulting the user manual and the FAQs, provides precise and quick answers, presenting the responses either by voice or on the screen mounted at the center of the dashboard.
On the app side, the Amazon Music App is now integrated into the smart #5 store, which eliminates the need for a connection to the smartphone. With the Signature Sound system from Sennheiser, which comes standard on the Brabus and Premium versions, owners can fully enjoy the capabilities of Dolby Atmos technology.

Finally, Smart has also added a screen mirroring function that turns the #5 into a kind of mobile workspace or entertainment area: users, by connecting laptops, tablets, or smartphones to a USB-C port and using an HDMI converter, can view content on the central screen and the passenger screen, but only when the vehicle is stationary. In motion, the second screen remains active but has a filter that limits the risk of distracting the driver.
