Skyler Diggins-Smith, the talented point guard in the WNBA, has made a major career move. After facing issues with the Phoenix Mercury and taking maternity leave, Diggins-Smith was determined to find a new team. And she has found it in the Seattle Storm, signing a lucrative two-year deal.

According to reports, Diggins-Smith will earn $219,000 in the first year of her contract, followed by $214,660 in the second year. This breaking news was initially reported by Howard Megdal at The Next, a trusted source in the basketball community.

The significance of this signing goes beyond just adding a skilled player to the Storm’s roster. It also reunites Diggins-Smith with her former Notre Dame teammate, Jewell Loyd. The two played together during the 2012-13 season, which saw Notre Dame reach the Final Four.

To celebrate her new journey with the Storm, Diggins-Smith shared a hype video on X, formerly known as Twitter. In the video, she can be seen practicing in her Storm jersey, accompanied by the hashtags “##StormCrazies #TakeCover #StormySky.” The excitement and anticipation for this new chapter in her career are evident.

At 33 years old, Diggins-Smith had an impressive season with the Phoenix Mercury in 2022. She averaged 19.7 points, 5.5 assists, and four rebounds per game, earning her a fourth all-WNBA First-Team selection and consideration for the MVP award. However, tensions arose between Diggins-Smith and the Mercury, leading to her decision to seek a fresh start with the Storm.

In order to make room in their salary cap for Diggins-Smith, the Storm made a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks. They sent guard Kia Nurse and this year’s fourth draft pick to the Sparks, opening up the possibility for additional player acquisitions. This move comes as the Storm aims to bounce back after missing the playoffs in 2023, a rare occurrence for the team. With the retirement of Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart’s departure to the Liberty, the Storm is entering a new era.

The future looks bright for Skylar Diggins-Smith as she embarks on this new chapter with the Seattle Storm. Fans and basketball enthusiasts eagerly await her contributions to the team and the exciting moments that lie ahead.

SHE’S BACK! BIG DRAMA FOR WNBA STAR!

In a shocking turn of events, it has been revealed that Skylar Diggins-Smith, the talented WNBA player, was allegedly denied access to the Phoenix Mercury’s practice facility and resources during her maternity leave. This bombshell revelation comes after a long history of discord, including a heated bench dispute with none other than Diana Taurasi. The Mercury, known for their lack of communication, barely addressed Diggins-Smith’s contract and leave, leaving her in the dark.

But this is not the first time Diggins-Smith has faced adversity. Just last year, she took to Twitter to express her eagerness to play for a different team, clearly dissatisfied with her current situation. And it’s not hard to see why. After joining the Mercury in 2020 through a trade from the Dallas Wings, where she also felt unsupported during her first pregnancy in 2019, Diggins-Smith has been vocal about the limited resources provided by her former team.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Diggins-Smith was originally drafted third overall by the Tulsa Shock in the 2013 WNBA Draft from Notre Dame. The team later relocated to Dallas in 2015, where she played six out of nine seasons with the franchise. During her time with the Wings, she proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with, earning four All-Star selections.

It’s clear that Diggins-Smith has faced her fair share of challenges throughout her career. Will she be able to overcome this latest setback and find the support she deserves? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping story!
