Skoda has inaugurated new facilities in the emissions center and a new simulation center in Mladá Boleslav, with an investment of around €22 million.
The new laboratory will strengthen the internal development capabilities of the car manufacturer in the Technical Development department.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, the new center allows precise and accurate simulation of a wide range of climatic conditions, supporting temperatures from -7 to +50°C during tests and simulating conditions ranging from 10 to 95% relative humidity, exposure to sunlight, and driving in mountainous areas at altitudes up to 5500 meters above sea level, thus allowing exhaustive tests that mimic real-world operations.
The laboratory also features a modern roller dynamometer for vehicles with powers up to 300 kW, capable of simulating driving resistances at speeds up to 265 km/h. Additionally, it is equipped with sophisticated air ducts with two fans for air flow simulation, an emissions analysis system, and a high-speed charging station for electric vehicles with powers up to 400 kW.
The new simulation center houses a unique laboratory in the Czech Republic and within the Volkswagen Group, and according to Skoda, it is among the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe.
“The opening of the new simulation center represents a step forward in automotive development and reaffirms Skoda Auto’s leadership position in the evolution and testing of driving systems and thermal management. The importance of the new simulation center and emissions center will continue to grow, both in terms of ensuring the quality of our production vehicles and in creating highly efficient systems and powertrains for the future,” stated Johannes Neft, member of the Skoda Auto Board of Management for Technical Development.
