The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) revealed on Wednesday that from July 10th to 16th, there were 1761 accidents on national roads, resulting in sixteen deaths, 43 serious injuries, and 550 minor injuries.
The numbers now released were recorded during the “2 Wheels: Hold on to Life” campaign, promoted by ANSR together with the PSP and GNR, and when compared to the same period last year, there is an increase in the number of fatalities (five more), but a decrease in the number of accidents (1194 less), as well as serious injuries (28 less) and minor injuries (464 less).
During the same period, “5.3 million vehicles were monitored for speed control by radar, 5.2 million of which were monitored by the SINCRO – National Speed Control System”, from ANSR, and 46.2 thousand were monitored in person.
“Out of the total of 5.4 million vehicles monitored during the campaign, there were 22.9 thousand infractions”, according to the statement.
The “2 Wheels: Hold on to Life” Road Safety Campaign was the seventh of the 12 awareness and enforcement campaigns planned under the National Inspection Plan (PNF) for 2024, and five more will be carried out by the end of the year, one per month.
