Seis pontos importantes do último Grande Prêmio de Fórmula 1 da Espanha.

The Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix has already provided many interesting developments even before the activities on the track begin. During Thursday’s media day in Barcelona, there were updates on the driver market and confirmation of changes for two drivers who did not score points in 2024.

One of the main points of discussion was Carlos Sainz’s future after Ferrari. Sainz admitted that the decision-making process has been exhausting and that he is close to making a final choice. Despite reports suggesting otherwise, Sainz stated that he has not yet decided and needs a few days at home to choose between Sauber and Williams for next year. He emphasized the importance of considering long-term aspects, such as the teams’ performance in 2025, and understanding the team dynamics and power unit capabilities.

Sergio Perez has been facing difficulties in the Spanish GP since joining Red Bull. In previous editions, he qualified far behind his teammate Max Verstappen and finished off the podium. Perez expects an improvement in performance after a low period that coincided with Red Bull’s struggles to make their car work well. He mentioned issues with suspension quality and setup compromises, as well as unspecified problems with his car in Montreal. Perez is optimistic about a fresh start in Barcelona and aims to return to the podium.

Logan Sargeant has finally received the same equipment as his teammate at Williams, Alex Albon. Sargeant expressed his happiness at having the lighter floor in his car, which will make a significant difference in qualifying. Despite a tough race in Canada, Sargeant showed good underlying pace and is counting on his progress to continue.

George Russell discussed his approach to racing and the increased frequency of errors in 2023 and 2024 compared to his debut year with Mercedes in 2022. Russell admitted that he is pushing harder now and taking risks to achieve victory for the team. He acknowledged that if he were fighting for a championship, he might not take as many risks, but since Mercedes is not currently one of the top contenders, he feels the need to push himself.

Esteban Ocon appears to be challenging amidst the chaos and noise surrounding him and the Alpine team since the collision in Monaco. He made it clear that he wants to leave the controversies behind and focus on the next race in Barcelona. Ocon mentioned the assurances from team boss Bruno Famin about equal treatment for the drivers for the rest of the season. He confirmed that he will have a slightly lighter car for the Spanish GP, indicating that the statement of equal treatment applies to this race.

Zhou Guanyu’s season has been marked by difficulties, including two collisions with walls in Canada and a lack of confidence in the car. As a result, he requested a chassis swap and other parts. Zhou has been struggling since the change and described the car as stiff in relation to bumps, which has affected his performance. The team made further changes before the Spanish GP to recreate the feeling he had earlier in the year. Zhou hopes that these changes will mark a fresh start and lead to better results.
