Siegel, a young pilot from California, has been given control of the #6 car from Arrow McLaren for the remaining races of the 2024 IndyCar season. He will begin his journey with this weekend’s race at Laguna Seca and has signed a multi-year contract with the team. Siegel has already replaced Agustin Canapino at Juncos Hollinger Racing during the Road America weekend, sacrificing his participation in IndyNXT. Now, he will leave the feeder series to focus on his responsibilities in the main series.
This decision to promote Siegel comes at the expense of Theo Pourchaire, who had been driving for Arrow McLaren in five races this season and was expected to continue for the rest of the year. Team boss Gavin Ward emphasized the importance of stability and growth in their long-term plans, and bringing in Siegel allows them to establish a foundation for the future. Ward praised Siegel’s talent and experience, highlighting the excitement of continuing this journey together.
The #6 car has undergone changes throughout the season, starting with David Malukas’ injury before the start of the season. Callum Ilott and Pourchaire had the opportunity to drive the car in some races. Before the Indianapolis 500, it was announced that Pourchaire would remain in the car for the rest of the season. However, the situation changed, and Pourchaire is no longer part of the team, paving the way for Siegel’s immediate entry.
Siegel expressed enthusiasm in joining the Arrow McLaren team and securing his place in the NTT IndyCar Series. He acknowledged the unexpected nature of the opportunity but expressed gratitude for his time in Indy NXT by Firestone with HMD Motorsports. Siegel is looking forward to embarking on this new journey and learning alongside the entire team, starting with the next race in his home state.
With just 19 years old, Siegel has made rapid progress in his racing career in recent years. He achieved a fourth place in the USF Pro 2000 series in 2022 and then moved up to IndyNXT in 2023, where he impressed as a rookie with a third place in the championship. This year, Siegel has been juggling his commitments in IndyNXT and Dale Coyne Racing #51. He almost competed in the Indianapolis 500 this year, but had a successful participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, winning the class with Sean Creech Motorsports.
As Siegel takes on this promotion, his time in IndyNXT and his part-time agreement with Dale Coyne come to an end. He leaves IndyNXT in fourth place in the standings after completing almost half of the season with HMD Motorsports. Additionally, his involvement with Dale Coyne Racing in IndyCar will not continue anymore.
