In a shocking turn of events, Haas F1 fans will be left on the edge of their seats as Esteban Ocon is set to miss a session at the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix. The team has announced that Japanese racer Ryo Hirakawa will step in as the reserve driver for Ocon, adding a new twist to the Formula 1 season.

Hirakawa, who recently joined Haas from Alpine, will be making his fourth appearance in an official F1 session during the FP1 in Spain. This decision comes as part of Haas’ strategy to comply with the new rookie driver rules set by Formula 1, which now require all teams to field a rookie in each of their cars at least twice across the season.

The 31-year-old Hirakawa expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Barcelona has some high-speed corners, with some long straights, so it will be another challenging FP1, but I’m a lot more prepared since my first one in Bahrain.” He added, “I’ll do my best to get good data for the team and have a better weekend for them.”

Haas has confirmed that Hirakawa will be given four FP1 appearances throughout the 2025 season, hinting at more surprises to come for F1 enthusiasts. With tensions rising and expectations mounting, all eyes will be on the Haas team as they navigate through this unexpected lineup change.
