Rumors are swirling in the Formula 1 world as speculation mounts about Franco Colapinto potentially replacing Jack Doohan at the upcoming Imola race. The Alpine team’s boss, Oliver Oakes, has come out to address these claims, dismissing them as mere “noise” for now.

After Colapinto joined Alpine as a reserve driver earlier this year, following a brief stint with Williams in the previous season, fans have been eagerly anticipating his return to the F1 grid. The chatter grew louder when Horacio Marín, CEO of Argentina’s YPF, hinted in a TV interview that Colapinto could debut at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

However, Oakes has made it clear that, as of today, Doohan will be retaining his spot in the Alpine team for the Imola race. Despite the buzz surrounding a potential driver switch, Oakes emphasized that Doohan is their driver alongside Pierre Gasly.

While acknowledging the natural speculation in the F1 circus, Oakes brushed off Marín’s comments, labeling them as mere opinions from an off-camera sponsor. He reiterated that, for the time being, the focus remains on Doohan’s performance and that the current lineup stands as is.

As the anticipation continues to build leading up to the Imola race, fans will have to wait and see if Colapinto will indeed make his way back to the F1 grid or if Doohan will hold his ground in the Alpine team.
