Denny Hamlin Blasts NASCAR All-Star Race for Lack of Elite Status

NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin didn’t hold back after the recent 2025 NASCAR All-Star Race, where Christopher Bell emerged victorious. Hamlin expressed his disappointment with the current state of the prestigious event, criticizing its inclusivity and questioning its “All-Star” essence.

In a fiery episode of his podcast Actions Detrimental, Hamlin slammed the race’s direction, lamenting the abundance of participants and the dilution of its significance. He argued that the event has lost its elite status, becoming a mere shadow of its former self. Hamlin’s frustration was palpable as he highlighted the race’s evolution into a more inclusive competition, with various entry paths like fan votes and even social media influence potentially determining participation.

The NASCAR All-Star Race, which originated in 1985 with strict entry criteria for recent champions, has gradually shifted its rules over the years to accommodate a broader range of drivers. Hamlin’s discontent also extended to NASCAR’s emphasis on short-term excitement over long-term credibility, urging the organizers to restore the race to its former elite glory.

Despite his critique of the All-Star Race, Hamlin acknowledged his own struggles on the track, citing recent poor performances at Texas and Kansas. The seasoned driver, who started the season strong with wins at Martinsville and Darlington, finds himself in seventh place in the NASCAR Cup points standings. As he gears up for the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Hamlin aims to bounce back from his recent setbacks and reclaim his winning form.

With Hamlin’s candid comments stirring up debate within the NASCAR community, the future of the All-Star Race and the sport’s overall direction remain topics of intense speculation among fans and experts alike. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Hamlin and his quest for redemption on the track.
