In a shocking turn of events at the 2025 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix Sprint, three drivers faced severe penalties, altering the race’s outcome dramatically.
The talented Alex Albon had his impressive fourth-place finish stripped away after incurring a post-race time penalty. This penalty pushed him out of the points, landing him in a disappointing 11th place. The Williams driver failed to adhere to the minimum time set by the ECU under the Safety Car, leading to the penalty that dashed his hopes of a top finish.
Joining Albon in the penalty debacle were Oliver Bearman and Liam Lawson. Bearman, representing Williams, was penalized for an unsafe release by the Haas team, causing him to plummet to 14th place. Lawson, racing for Racing Bulls, received a penalty for a collision with Fernando Alonso, resulting in a late-race Safety Car deployment. This penalty dropped Lawson to 13th place, missing out on crucial points.
The beneficiaries of these penalties were Lance Stroll for Aston Martin, securing fifth place, and Yuki Tsunoda for Red Bull, making an impressive recovery from a pitlane start to claim sixth place.
Furthermore, Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli seized seventh place after losing the lead to Oscar Piastri on the opening lap. Pierre Gasly from Alpine rounded up the points scorers in the Miami Sprint.
These penalties reshaped the leaderboard, creating a mix of emotions and setting the stage for intense competition in the upcoming races.
