Shane van Gisbergen may be one of NASCAR’s fastest-rising stars, but America still doesn’t feel like home.

The three-time Supercars champion from New Zealand stunned the racing world when he won his NASCAR Cup Series debut in Chicago last year. Since then, he’s fought his way up the ranks, dominating in the Xfinity Series before landing a full-time Cup Series seat with Trackhouse Racing in 2025.

Yet, despite his rapid success, SVG is still adjusting to life away from home—and leaning on NASCAR legends like Kevin Harvick for guidance.

Adjusting to NASCAR Life: ‘I Still Feel Like I’m a Long Way from Home’

🔹 Racing in NASCAR has been a wild adventure for SVG, but the transition hasn’t been easy.
🔹 The Kiwi still struggles with life in the U.S., from driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road to missing his family.
🔹 Kevin Harvick and Marcos Ambrose have been his biggest mentors, helping him adjust to the stock car world.

“I still find myself talking to Kevin (Harvick) and Marcos (Ambrose). They’ve been my main people to rely on for coaching stuff.”

Harvick, a former Cup Series champion and now SVG’s agent, has helped navigate the business side of NASCAR, something SVG admits was a challenge.

“I struggled when I first came here, when it came to getting a manager and an attorney. I don’t know anything, so Kevin and Josh (Jones, KHI vice president) were a great help.”

Can SVG Conquer the Cup Series in His Rookie Year?

🚨 WHAT’S NEXT FOR SVG?
🔹 12 Cup races last year—now a full-time driver in 2025.
🔹 Three wins in his Xfinity rookie season—can he match that in the Cup Series?
🔹 First full-time Cup race? The Daytona 500—the biggest race in NASCAR.

Despite his short time in the series, SVG is already gaining a reputation as one of NASCAR’s most exciting road-course racers. But now, he’ll need to prove he can compete at ovals, something that will define his long-term NASCAR future.

“The best race I’ve ever had? Bristol.”

That short-track battle gave him confidence—now, he’s ready to prove he belongs at NASCAR’s highest level.

The Bottom Line: NASCAR’s Most Unpredictable Star Is Just Getting Started

From Supercars legend to NASCAR’s hottest prospect, Shane van Gisbergen is writing a one-of-a-kind racing story.

He may still feel like he’s a long way from home, but his talent speaks for itself. If SVG can conquer the ovals and keep his aggressive racing style intact, he might just be a Cup Series title contender sooner than anyone expects.

📢 First test? The Daytona 500. Buckle up.
