In a stunning turn of events, Trackhouse Racing has set the NASCAR world on fire by granting Shane Van Gisbergen a full-time Cup Series ride. The decision came after Van Gisbergen’s remarkable performance, including a recent victory in Mexico City, where he overcame numerous challenges to showcase his undeniable talent on road courses.

Despite a somewhat lackluster season with only one top-ten finish in 15 races, Trackhouse Racing’s owner saw something special in the Kiwi speedster. Van Gisbergen’s success in Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 initiative, culminating in a historic win at the Chicago Street Race, solidified his position as a road course racing legend with immense potential.

Van Gisbergen’s primary goal is clear – to excel in road races and secure a spot in the playoffs. His latest triumph at the Viva Mexico 250 race, where he dominated by leading 60 of 100 laps and beating his closest competitor by over 16 seconds, reaffirmed his prowess on road courses. Despite his focus on road races, Van Gisbergen is determined to improve his performance on oval tracks to justify his place as a Cup Series driver.

The Kiwi racer’s resilience and determination were on full display in Mexico, where he battled illness to secure victory. Van Gisbergen’s victory not only highlighted his exceptional skills but also justified Trackhouse Racing’s decision to bring him on board for the full-time Cup Series ride.

Moreover, by inheriting the iconic No. 88 car number, previously driven by legendary NASCAR figure Dale Earnhardt Jr., Van Gisbergen shoulders the responsibility of upholding the number’s prestigious legacy. With the support of key figures like Earnhardt Jr. and Hendrick Motorsports, Van Gisbergen is poised to make his mark and continue the tradition of excellence associated with the No. 88 car.

As Van Gisbergen gears up for the 2025 Cup Series playoffs, the racing world eagerly anticipates the heights he can reach and the new milestones he can achieve for Trackhouse Racing. Stay tuned as this rising star continues to shine bright in the world of NASCAR.
