Yasser Shahin, the winner of the LMGT3 class in the #91 Manthey Porsche EMA at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, described the race as a series of ups and downs.
During the FIA World Endurance Championship post-race press conference, Shahin expressed his wish for less drama. He also mentioned that the team had made significant progress in their first year with the latest model of the Porsche 911 and in their first year in this race format. They were also new to many of the tracks they competed on.
Shahin emphasized the importance of having great co-drivers and a great team, which allowed them to have an incredible learning experience. Despite not having big ambitions at the beginning of the weekend, they steadily improved during each session and qualified well. They believed they had a chance to compete for a standout result.
The race had its challenges, including a confusing pit stop and a red flag. However, they fought back and ended up finding themselves in the lead. With half an hour remaining, they realized they had a chance to achieve something significant.
The qualifying performance of the Porsche 992 driven by Shahin was impressive, and their main rivals during the race were the McLaren cars from United Autosports and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2s, especially the #85 Iron Dames machine.
After a long period of red flag, there was a 1 hour and 44-minute race to the finish line. Both the #91 and #92 Manthey Porsches, as well as their competitors, had to save fuel to avoid making an extra pit stop.
This victory for Manthey was their second in the WEC, following their win at the 1812 km race in Qatar. Their next goal is to win the LMGT3 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
