The Best of Checo Perez Is Yet to Come,” Says His Father After Red Bull Exit

In the wake of Sergio Perez’s turbulent departure from Red Bull Racing, his father, Antonio Perez Garibay, has delivered an emotional yet optimistic statement about his son’s future. Despite a career-defining setback, Perez Sr. has assured fans that Checo’s story is far from over, hinting at historic accomplishments yet to come for the Mexican racing icon.

A Career High Turned Sour
Sergio Perez’s tenure with Red Bull started with promise, but the 2024 season became a nightmare. From lackluster performances to leading the Destructors’ Championship—a dubious title reflecting the highest cost of chassis damage—Perez’s struggles were impossible to ignore. Ultimately, the team’s loss in the constructors’ championship sealed his fate, leading to a mutual agreement to part ways ahead of 2025.

Despite this bitter end, Antonio Perez expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity Red Bull gave his son, calling it the pinnacle of Checo’s racing career.

“We have to thank Red Bull a lot. Checo Perez’s best years in his racing career were at Red Bull. We must not take this as a rivalry; this is the world of motorsport,” Perez Sr. remarked.

The Grim Reality of Formula 1
Perez Sr. also shed light on the cutthroat nature of Formula 1, emphasizing the exclusivity of the sport. With only 20 coveted seats on the grid, even the smallest misstep can spell the end of a driver’s career.

“Formula 1 only has 20 seats. We are more than 7 billion people. Everyone is looking for a seat there,” he said, framing his son’s departure not as a failure but as a testament to the fierce competition at the highest level of motorsport.

Checo’s Uncertain Future
While Antonio Perez suggested that his son might never return to racing, he struck an optimistic tone about Checo’s potential beyond F1. He dismissed rumors linking Perez to General Motors’ 2026 program, calling them unlikely. However, he left the door open for new opportunities outside of Formula 1, hinting at a future that could still inspire pride and admiration.

“The best version of Checo Pérez is yet to come. Everyone is going to be very happy and very proud. What Checo Pérez has done up until now is just the beginning. What’s coming will be historic, I assure you,” Perez Sr. stated passionately.

Despite the setback, Perez Sr. affirmed that the family remains deeply connected to Formula 1, saying, “The Pérez family has not abandoned Formula 1.”

Fans Await Checo’s Next Move
Sergio Perez, now 34, has yet to make a public statement about his next chapter. While his career in Formula 1 may be over, the Mexican driver’s talent and determination could pave the way for success in other motorsport categories. Whether it’s endurance racing, IndyCar, or an entirely new venture, fans are eager to see how Perez reinvents himself after a long and demanding F1 career.

Legacy Amid Adversity
Sergio Perez’s journey in Formula 1, highlighted by iconic wins and moments of brilliance, may not have ended as planned, but it remains a source of immense pride for his fans and family. As his father aptly put it, “What’s coming will be historic.” The racing world now watches with anticipation, wondering what lies ahead for one of Mexico’s most celebrated athletes.
