Sergio Perez Eyes F1 Comeback with Cadillac Amidst Verstappen Pressure

Former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez might be gearing up for a sensational return to Formula 1 with Cadillac in 2026, as hinted by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. The Mexican driver’s potential move to the American team has been a hot topic, with Marko emphasizing the importance of Perez overcoming the challenges he faced alongside Max Verstappen in his final season.

Marko’s endorsement of Perez’s comeback stems from the driver’s marketability, especially in regions like Latin America and the United States. The advisor mentioned, “If he has recovered from the pressure of Verstappen and is highly motivated, then yes. He’s very popular in Latin America and you shouldn’t forget that.” With talks reportedly underway, Perez’s future in F1 seems to be taking an exciting turn.

Cadillac’s recent approval to enter Formula 1 in 2026 has sparked further speculation about Perez’s potential role in the team. Backed by General Motors and Ferrari powertrains, Cadillac is poised to make a grand entrance into the sport under the new regulations. CEO of TWG Motorsports, Dan Towriss, expressed enthusiasm about the team’s upcoming venture, emphasizing their commitment to assembling top talent and cutting-edge technologies.

Mario Andretti, a prominent figure at Cadillac, has not shied away from expressing interest in Perez as a valuable addition to the team. With the second cockpit up for grabs, Andretti highlighted the importance of securing an experienced driver. He hinted, “The second cockpit will definitely be filled with an experienced driver who is available.” This statement comes after Liam Lawson’s transition from Red Bull to its sister team, shedding light on the competitive landscape within the sport.

Andretti’s comments about Perez’s skills compared to Lawson’s performance have added fuel to the speculation surrounding the driver lineup at Cadillac. Referring to Herta as a “great candidate,” Andretti hinted at the limited pool of available experienced drivers in the United States. The anticipation around Cadillac’s F1 debut and the potential roster choices have set the stage for an intriguing season ahead.

As Perez prepares to potentially make his mark with Cadillac, the F1 community eagerly awaits the official announcement regarding the team’s driver lineup. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of motorsport.
