Sergio Pérez Blasts Red Bull: Team Failed to Protect Him Leading to Disastrous Season
In a shocking revelation, Sergio Pérez has launched a scathing attack on Red Bull for their handling of his departure at the end of the 2024 F1 season. The Mexican driver claimed that the team did not adequately protect him despite having a signed contract, leading to detrimental effects on his performance due to constant speculation about his future.
Despite playing a crucial support role to Max Verstappen and securing five victories during his time at Red Bull, Pérez’s performance took a nosedive in 2024, culminating in an eighth-place finish in the championship. This decline prompted Red Bull to replace him with Liam Lawson for the 2025 season.
Pérez expressed his frustration, stating, “I had a signed contract in Monaco, but from the next race, everyone was talking about my future, even though I already had a contract in place. It would have been easy for the team to protect me and say, ‘You know what? We have a driver signed for the next two years.’ But that’s not what happened. From then on, it was all about Red Bull, race after race. In the end, there was a lot of pressure on my side of the garage… I was putting a lot of pressure on the engineers, on everyone involved, and I think in the end, that ended up costing us a lot.”
Despite Pérez’s departure, Red Bull is still struggling to find a consistent second driver, with Lawson and Tsunoda delivering below-par performances. Meanwhile, Pérez is eyeing a comeback to F1, potentially with the new team Cadillac for the 2026 season. His wealth of experience and sponsor support make him an attractive option, although he faces stiff competition from other drivers in the paddock.
