Sergio Perez promises to double efforts after losing momentum in 2024.

Sergio Perez is facing a significant decline in his performance in recent Formula 1 races. The start of the 2024 season for Perez was completely unexpected. It was expected that the Mexican driver would closely follow the pace set by his competitors. However, the 34-year-old driver has dropped to fifth place in the drivers’ championship due to disappointing performances. Additionally, Perez has suffered two consecutive retirements in Monaco and Canada. However, he remains determined to make a comeback and strive for improvement.

Perez acknowledges that he has lost a considerable amount of momentum compared to the start of the season. Despite this setback, he maintains a positive outlook and aims to improve his performance as the season progresses. The Mexican driver recognizes that there is still a long season ahead and hopes to regain the form he showed at the beginning.

Furthermore, Perez emphasizes his commitment to regain his previous level of performance. He understands the need to achieve better results in the 2024 season and is hopeful of returning to his former form despite the recent disappointments. The pressure on him has increased even more with the signing of a two-year contract extension.

“I will be working diligently with the team in the coming weeks to ensure that we can regain that level of performance,” says Perez.

Perez’s performance has suffered greatly after his two retirements. On both occasions, the Mexican driver suffered significant damage to his chassis. He had high aspirations of recovering his early season form and performing well. However, he has received a grid penalty for the next race, which means he will need to exert even more effort to improve his position.

During the incident in Montreal, Perez collided with the wall and caused substantial damage to the rear of his chassis. Despite the damage, he managed to slowly return to the pits with his RB20. However, the FIA expressed dissatisfaction with Perez’s decision to drive the damaged chassis back to the pits. As a result, the 34-year-old driver received a three-grid position penalty.

As a consequence, Perez’s difficult season may continue at the Spanish Grand Prix due to the grid penalty. So far, the Mexican driver is at risk of falling behind in the drivers’ championship. Perez has only accumulated 107 points so far and currently holds the fifth position in the standings.
