Sergio Perez’s weekend at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix was nothing short of a catastrophe, adding fuel to mounting doubts about his future at Red Bull. From the first session to the checkered flag, Perez struggled with a string of issues that left him stranded in 11th place, a far cry from the top ranks. His performance at Interlagos only underscored a disappointing season that has placed him eighth in the driver’s standings with just 150 points—now a glaring reason why Red Bull has slipped to third in the Constructors’ Championship.

After the race, Perez spoke candidly about his struggles, admitting, “It was a disaster. We didn’t know until the last minute that we could change tires, so we started on very cold tires. As soon as the race began, I hit a wall of water, and the visibility was terrible. Then, during the red flag, we lost crucial positions. It was a total disaster.”

The Brazilian GP was marked by harsh weather and even tougher racing conditions, and Perez found himself on the losing end of several on-track battles, including intense skirmishes with Liam Lawson and Lewis Hamilton. “We came up to Liam, and there was some contact in Turn 1. I overshot Turn 4 and lost the position to Lewis. Nothing worked,” he admitted.

While teammate Max Verstappen has shouldered the team’s title hopes nearly singlehandedly, Perez’s faltering form has put his future in jeopardy. Rumors swirl as contenders like Lawson and others eye Perez’s 2025 seat, and with just three races left this season, the Mexican driver is under pressure to deliver game-changing results to secure his place. For Perez, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi may hold the final verdict.
