Sergio Perez highlights the main problem in Fernando Alonso’s call for ‘extra pre-season testing’

Fernando Alonso showcased his talent in Formula One during a period when testing was not restricted. As the 2024 F1 season commenced with pre-season testing in Bahrain, several drivers had the chance to evaluate their cars for the first time. Prior to the event, Alonso, a two-time F1 World Champion, put forward some significant alterations to the testing regulations. Having personally experienced the benefits of unlimited testing in his prime years, Alonso believes that F1 should permit teams to engage in more extensive testing sessions.

However, Sergio Perez, a prominent driver for Red Bull, remains unconvinced by this proposition. He argues that the current race calendar, which consists of 24 races, is already demanding and excessively lengthy. The 34-year-old driver emphasizes the significance of breaks in managing the energy levels of athletes. Perez believes that these breaks contribute to the drivers’ ability to deliver exceptional performances for their teams.

Perez highlights the challenging nature of the current season, with its 24 races. He suggests that instead of focusing on the quantity of races, the sport should prioritize their quality. The Mexican driver further emphasizes the necessity of breaks to manage the drivers’ energy levels, considering the already demanding nature of the calendar.

In anticipation of the 2024 season, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez reflects on his performance in the RB19 during the previous season. He expresses his readiness to compete in the new RB20 and states that he has taken the time to rejuvenate himself for the upcoming year.

Additionally, Perez acknowledges that he has learned from his past mistakes and intends to apply those lessons starting from this year. He emphasizes his commitment to seizing every opportunity that comes his way and highlights that this will be his fourth year with Red Bull, making it a particularly significant season for him.

Despite being a favorite among fans, Perez’s contract with Red Bull is set to expire at the end of the season. To secure his place in the Red Bull family, Perez understands the importance of performing exceptionally well on the grid.
