Sergio Pérez stayed in the top five in both Friday’s free practice sessions at the Mexico City Grand Prix of Formula 1. However, the Red Bull man is not completely satisfied with the work he did at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.

According to the Mexican, Friday was challenging and did not allow him to extract solid indications about the performance of the soft tires on a fast lap: ‘I would say we didn’t have an easy day, we didn’t get a good read on the soft [tire] on a single lap. I had a yellow flag, so I ended up doing it on my second timed lap. My lap wasn’t as good and I almost went off track in the last corner! So there’s still a lot to understand, especially the front compounds, to get a good read for Sunday’.

In any case, Pérez assured that he has reasons to be optimistic: ‘I think overall we seem to be in a good position and I believe we have a good direction to follow. Things look good, but as we know, qualifying is going to be tight’.

The #11 also spoke about the attention and support he receives from local fans: ‘It’s funny, when you’re in the car you’re so focused that you forget where you are and as soon as you get out, it’s “wow”, it’s a lot of attention. But it’s very nice to have a lot of support from the fans’.
