According to Doornbos, Red Bull’s Helmut Marko is hesitant and prefers to offer only one-year extensions to the 34-year-old Perez, to avoid complacency. Perez’s resurgence has positioned him favorably for contract negotiations, despite potential interest from Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz.
Doornbos shared an anecdote in which Marko humorously dismissed Perez’s request for a longer contract during negotiations in Japan. Marko’s position is clear: he believes in offering no more than a one-year extension to maintain the driver’s motivation, citing concerns about complacency in longer contracts. Marko has previously suggested that the possibility of contract renewal can significantly motivate drivers, implying that Perez’s recent performances may be influenced in part by his contractual situation. Despite the uncertainty regarding the duration of the extension, Perez remains a strong contender in the driver market, closely following teammate Max Verstappen in the standings.
