Formula 1 Shock: Sergio Perez’s Comeback Rumors Explode as Wheatley Backs Him for 2026 Return

In a surprising turn of events, former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez is being touted for a sensational return to Formula 1 as soon as 2026. The speculations have been fueled by none other than Jonathan Wheatley, the team principal of Kick Sauber, who believes Perez has what it takes to make a strong comeback to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Despite a lackluster performance in 2024, where Perez struggled to match his teammate Max Verstappen, Wheatley argues that the Mexican driver’s skills were overshadowed by the exceptional talent of the four-time world champion. Wheatley, who now heads Sauber, has thrown his support behind Perez, hinting at a potential comeback for the seasoned driver.

Wheatley, who has a history of working with Perez during their time at Milton Keynes, expressed his confidence in the driver’s abilities, stating, “I believe he is more than capable of returning and immediately getting up to speed with a new team.” Wheatley’s endorsement comes at a time when Perez is eyeing a return to the grid, leveraging the current challenges faced by Red Bull Racing in the 2025 season.

The seasoned team principal highlighted Perez’s professionalism, speed, and technical understanding of the sport, praising his ability to bounce back stronger after setbacks. Wheatley’s remarks have ignited speculation within the F1 community, with fans eagerly awaiting Perez’s potential return and the impact he could have on the grid in the upcoming seasons.

As the rumors swirl and anticipation grows, all eyes are on Sergio Perez as he contemplates his future in Formula 1. Will the Mexican driver make a triumphant return to the sport, proving his critics wrong and showcasing his true potential on the track? Only time will tell if Perez can secure a seat for the 2026 season and reignite his F1 career with a new team.
