Lewis Hamilton applauded George Russell as the 26-year-old driver secured his second victory in the world of Formula 1 in Austria.

The race had a surprising conclusion, with Russell emerging as the winner. The British driver started the race in fourth position, behind McLaren. This unexpected victory by Mercedes and Russell surprised the Formula 1 community and everyone on the track.

After the race ended, George Russell’s teammate showed his appreciation by applauding him from inside the car. Hamilton’s gesture served as a way to congratulate Russell and show his support and admiration for his teammate’s achievement. It also highlighted the sportsmanship that exists among teammates in the highly competitive world of Formula 1.

Russell’s victory can largely be attributed to the battle between the main competitors, Norris and Verstappen. Both drivers engaged in an intense wheel-to-wheel duel, resulting in contact between Norris and Verstappen’s cars. This collision forced Norris to retire from the race, despite starting in second position. Verstappen, on the other hand, managed to change his tires during the pit stop that followed the incident. This turn of events created an opportunity for Russell and Piastri at the back of the pack. Russell maintained his lead and secured the victory.

Max Verstappen’s defeat can also be attributed to a delay in Red Bull’s pit stop. The team took over 6 seconds to change Verstappen’s tires, which is an unusually long duration and a rare occurrence for Red Bull. This extended pit stop resulted in Verstappen spending too much time in the pits, causing him to lose positions on the track. Ultimately, this led to his collision with Norris, resulting in the incident.

When George Russell was leading the race, the team boss encouraged him over the team radio. He expressed confidence in Russell’s ability to win the race after identifying an opportunity for the British driver following the incident involving Norris and Verstappen. With Norris forced to retire and Verstappen receiving a 10-second penalty, Russell found himself in the lead.

While leading the race after the incident between Norris and Verstappen, George Russell commented over the radio that the race was not over until he emerged as the winner. Russell anticipated the dynamics of the race and recognized the opportunity to capitalize on the situation. The race took an unexpected turn in the end, resulting in a surprising victory for Russell. It was especially unexpected, as no one had predicted that Max Verstappen would be defeated by Russell and Mercedes at Red Bull’s home race in Austria.

Toto Wolff expressed his belief in Russell’s potential to win the race, stating, “George, you can win this.” Both Wolff and teammate Lewis Hamilton expressed immense satisfaction with George Russell’s triumph at the Red Bull Ring. Despite Verstappen’s strong performance in qualifying and the Sprint, Red Bull fans were disappointed to see their team fail to secure victory at their home track. Russell’s unexpected victory marked a significant triumph for Mercedes over Red Bull in their own backyard.
