Sebastien Ogier Dominates Acropolis Rally Amidst Puncture Chaos

The Acropolis Rally Greece has turned into a battlefield as Sebastien Ogier takes the lead despite facing puncture mayhem that shook up the leaderboard on a challenging Friday morning. The eight-time world champion showcased his expertise by finishing the morning loop with a 6.1s lead over Ott Tanak, with Adrien Fourmaux trailing in third place by 14.4s.

The rally kicked off with Ogier and Tanak sharing the overnight lead before diving into the rough gravel stages on Friday. Ogier’s stellar performance in stage two was followed by a setback in stage three due to the road cleaning effect, allowing Thierry Neuville to surge ahead. However, everything changed in the second run through the Aghii Theodori stage, where the scorching temperatures and rough roads proved to be a tire graveyard, impacting six Rally1 crews.

Neuville bore the brunt of the chaos, suffering a front-left puncture that cost him the rally lead. Despite the setback, Neuville pushed on, losing valuable time and plummeting to sixth place overall. Meanwhile, Ogier reclaimed the lead, showcasing remarkable resilience by not letting a puncture towards the end of the stage deter his performance.

The Acropolis Rally’s treacherous conditions led to a puncture epidemic, affecting top contenders like Tanak, Elfyn Evans, and others. As drivers grappled with the unforgiving terrain, Fourmaux strategically navigated the rough sections to avoid tire trouble, securing a win in stage three.

Moving into the afternoon stages, Sami Pajari held fourth place, with Kalle Rovanpera and Evans facing challenges that hindered their positions. A steering issue further compounded Evans’ woes, leaving him in seventh place overall.

Despite the tire drama and intense competition, the rally saw Oliver Solberg clinching the top spot in the WRC2 category, adding another layer of excitement to an already action-packed event.

As the Acropolis Rally continues to push drivers to their limits, the battle for supremacy rages on, promising thrills, spills, and unexpected twists in the quest for glory.
