Sébastien Bourdais will return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 1,812km race in Qatar, the opening round of the season scheduled for March 2nd in Losail… and he will do so in the top category, Hypercar, with Cadillac Racing.
According to the official championship website, the experienced Frenchman will join Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber, and will alternate as the third driver of the V-Series.R #2 with Renger van der Zande throughout the year. He will also be present at the Prologue, also held in Qatar.
After a career focused on single-seaters, endurance racing has been Bourdais’ discipline for several years now, with previous participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (where he won in LMGTE Pro in 2016), the WEC in LMP2 in the 2022 season, and he is also a full-time driver for Cadillac Racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
The Chief Operating Officer of Chip Ganassi Racing, which operates the Cadillac program, explained the choice of Bourdais. ‘When a team is lucky enough to have such a strong lineup of drivers to choose from, it only makes sense to utilize the talent you have when the opportunity arises. Placing Sébastien Bourdais in the #2 car for the Qatar events will give him a chance to familiarize himself with the WEC rules once again. It will also allow us to strengthen the bond between the IMSA team based in the United States and the WEC team based in Germany. We know it will strengthen both programs and better prepare us for our 2024 attack on the 24 Hours of Le Mans’.
