Sebastian Vettel, a four-time champion in the world of Formula 1, finally spoke about Lewis Hamilton’s surprising move to Ferrari. Not only Vettel, but many others were also surprised by Hamilton’s decision. Vettel, who retired from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season, expressed his surprise at Hamilton’s move to Ferrari.
During the same interview, Vettel addressed rumors of his possible return to Formula 1 as Hamilton’s replacement at Mercedes in 2025. Although he recently had a conversation with the Mercedes boss, they did not discuss a return to F1, and that is not currently on the table. Vettel gained a lot of self-discovery and understanding during his year away from racing, and is currently enjoying his time with his family.
When asked about his future in motorsport, Vettel stated that he currently has no plans to return. He believes that everything has a process, and although he may consider a comeback in the future, he is currently content and does not wish to return to the world of Formula 1. However, he will be watching this season’s races with his wife, including the Bahrain Grand Prix.
With Hamilton joining Ferrari in 2025, this season may seem like an extended version of the current one. There have been rumors about who will replace Hamilton at Mercedes, with some mentioning the 2016 world champion and former teammate of Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, as a possible contender. However, Rosberg firmly closed the door on a comeback.
There have been speculations that Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes, reached out to Rosberg for a sensational return to the team in 2025. However, Rosberg declined the idea, stating that he is not physically or psychologically prepared to face the risks of modern Grand Prix racing. After so many years away from the sport, he feels that he would not be able to handle the G-forces as effectively as before.
Mercedes now needs to find a suitable replacement for Hamilton as soon as possible. With 13 driver contracts expiring at the end of this season, every team will be fighting to secure the best drivers for their lineup. It will be interesting to see who will take the place in the team for 2025 and beyond.
