Sebastian Vettel, the four-time F1 champion, has made waves in New York with his latest environmental project alongside a new team collaboration. Since bidding farewell to Formula 1 in 2022, Vettel has been channeling his energy into initiatives that have a positive impact on society at large.

Venturing beyond the realm of racing, the 37-year-old racing legend has been actively involved in various endeavors, from supporting women in motorsport through Race4Women events to advocating for environmental consciousness. Vettel’s commitment to continuous learning is evident as he recently completed a Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports course at Harvard Business School, all while honing his skills in agriculture at the BBZ Pfaeffikon center in Switzerland.

Adding to his list of achievements, Vettel became an investor in the German SailGP Team in 2023. The latest development sees Vettel engaging in an environmental exploration project with the team in the iconic Hudson River in New York. SailGP, known for its international sailing competitions across the globe, welcomed Vettel to join the German team in conducting vital research in the Hudson River.

Teaming up with researchers from the marine conservation group Gotham Whale, Vettel and the SailGP squad delved into the waters to gather eDNA samples, shedding light on the diverse species inhabiting the river. Through a shared video, Vettel was seen actively participating in collecting water samples while engaging with researchers to understand the pollution levels in the Hudson River and the significance of studying its marine life.

Highlighting the environmental impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems, Chris St Lawrence from Gotham Whale emphasized the historical decline in biodiversity in the Hudson River due to water exploitation and pollution. Vettel’s hands-on involvement in this project underscores his commitment to raising awareness and contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Moreover, Vettel is not the sole prominent figure investing in SailGP teams, as Hollywood icons Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were recently announced as co-owners of Australia’s SailGP Team. The team, now known as BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, made their debut at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix alongside Vettel’s environmental pursuits in the city’s iconic river.

Sebastian Vettel’s foray into environmental research and conservation marks a significant shift in his post-F1 endeavors, showcasing his dedication to making a positive difference beyond the racetrack. His collaboration with the German SailGP Team in exploring the waters of the Hudson River underscores the importance of environmental awareness and sustainable practices in today’s world.
