Indonesian Driver Sean Gelael Overcomes Red Flag Drama to Secure Hyperpole Spot

In a heart-pounding turn of events, Indonesian driver Sean Gelael faced disappointment as a red flag disrupted his qualifying session but ultimately fought back to secure a spot in the final LMGT3 Hyperpole shootout for United Autosports. Piloting the #95 McLaren 720S LMGT3 Evo, Gelael expressed his frustration at the untimely red flag, which he felt came just one second too soon, halting what he believed was a promising initial lap that had him in the top positions.

Despite the setback, Gelael showcased his determination by staying calm and pushing for a second flying lap. However, just as he was on pace to improve his time, the car suddenly came to a stop, adding a new layer of suspense to his qualifying journey. After a tense restart attempt, Gelael managed to get back on track just in time to complete a lap that secured his spot in the Hyperpole shootout, describing the experience as a thrilling rollercoaster ride.

Navigating through the challenges of the session, Gelael found himself in a precarious situation as he stopped on the Mulsanne Straight, narrowly avoiding the need for a red flag due to his strategic positioning. Despite the hurdles faced during qualifying, United Autosports, a two-time winner in the LMP2 category, is now aiming for their first victory in the LMGT3 category at the FIA World Endurance Championship.

With a final shootout time of 3:55.965 by Marino Sato, the #95 McLaren secured the seventh position on the grid, outperforming competitors like the #78 Akkodis ASP Lexus RC F LMGT3. Gelael’s remarkable display of resilience and skill in the face of adversity adds an extra layer of anticipation to the upcoming race, setting the stage for an exhilarating showdown on the track.
