Seahawks Sign Disruptive 23-Year-Old in Coach Mike Macdonald’s 1st Move

Seattle Seahawks Make First Roster Move Under New Head Coach

In a surprising move, the Seattle Seahawks have made their first roster move under new head coach Mike Macdonald. The team has signed cornerback Lance Boykin to a Reserve/Future deal. Boykin, who spent last season on the Seahawks practice squad, will be looking to secure a spot on the roster during training camp.

Macdonald, known for his defensive prowess, wasted no time in addressing the team’s defensive needs. As the former defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, he led the team to become the No. 1 ranked NFL unit in 2023. With the Seahawks defense struggling last season, allowing an average of 23.6 points per game, it is clear that Macdonald is looking to make improvements.

Boykin, a 23-year-old defender, went undrafted in 2023 after playing college football at Coastal Carolina. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Boykin has the size and length to disrupt the catch point. However, he lacks the athleticism and speed to keep up with NFL route runners as a man defender.

Despite his limitations, Boykin has the potential to excel in a zone-based cover scheme. Some teams may even consider trying him out as a safety due to his physical traits. The Seahawks, by signing Boykin to a Reserve/Future deal, have secured his rights and prevented him from negotiating with other teams.

While Boykin’s signing is a step in the right direction, the Seahawks will need to make bigger moves this offseason to improve their roster. With several key members of the Ravens defense becoming free agents, there is speculation that Macdonald may try to lure them to Seattle. Linebacker Patrick Queen, defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, and linebacker Kyle Van Noy are among the Ravens free agents who could potentially join the Seahawks.

As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on the Seahawks as they look to rebuild their defense under the leadership of Mike Macdonald. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see what other moves the team will make to strengthen their roster.

MIKE MACDONALD TALKS COACHING STAFF AS SEAHAWKS PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON

In an exclusive interview with Seattle Sports’ “Bump and Stacy,” new Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald provided an update on his coaching staff and his plans for the upcoming season. While he did not reveal specific details, Macdonald confirmed that he has started discussions with potential candidates to fill various roles within his staff.

When asked about his defensive strategy, Macdonald stated that he intends to call the plays himself initially, until he believes that his defensive coordinator is ready to take over. This hands-on approach demonstrates Macdonald’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining a strong defensive unit.

However, Macdonald made it clear that he does not intend to make drastic changes to the foundation laid by former head coach Pete Carroll. Instead, he aims to build upon the existing culture while focusing on “chasing edges” with the players. Macdonald expressed his belief that if something is not broken, there is no need to fix it.

During the interview, Macdonald emphasized the importance of respect within the team’s culture. He expressed his eagerness to hear from the players and staff members as they embark on this new journey together. Macdonald also outlined his vision for the team, stating that they will strive to stay cutting edge and maintain a sense of urgency in their pursuit of success.

As the Seahawks gear up for the upcoming season, fans can expect a hardworking and relentless team under Macdonald’s leadership. Stay tuned for more updates on the team’s progress as they prepare to dominate the NFL and NBA.
