Scot Elkins to Retire as Formula E Race Director After Miami E-Prix

Formula E’s longtime Race Director, Scot Elkins, has announced his retirement from the position, effective after April’s Miami E-Prix, citing personal reasons.

Elkins, who has served in the role for the past seven years, will be succeeded by his deputy, Marek Hanaczewski, who previously led the season-opening São Paulo E-Prix. The FIA confirmed that Elkins and Hanaczewski will officially swap roles starting with next week’s Jeddah E-Prix double-header. From the Monaco E-Prix weekend onward, Hanaczewski will be joined by Beniot Dupont, Formula E’s current Head of Circuit Operations.

Elkins Bids Farewell

In a heartfelt statement, Elkins explained his decision to step away from the role:

“After ten years in Formula E, the time has come for me to retire as Race Director. With the recent loss of my father this past December, I have new responsibilities that require my time and attention at home.

“While I had hoped to complete Season 11 and retire at its conclusion, my plans have now been accelerated, and my focus remains on my family. I will continue working in motorsport, primarily on projects based in the USA.

“I have been honoured to be a part of the Formula E paddock and am grateful for the friendships that have grown over the years. Although I am very sad to leave, I am confident in the staff that will remain. We have worked closely together, and I know they are committed to making the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship a success, this season and in the many to come.”

Hanaczewski Steps Up

Elkins’ successor, Marek Hanaczewski, expressed his gratitude and excitement for the new challenge ahead:

“Stepping into the role of Race Director is an exciting new chapter in my motorsport career, and the continuation of a journey that began 13 years ago.

“Since 2017, I have had the privilege to work alongside Scot, who has been not only a great leader but also a mentor, teacher, and friend. I am incredibly grateful for the knowledge, experience, and trust he has shared with me over the years.

“His contribution to Formula E is undeniable, and I deeply appreciate the time we have spent working together. Now, I look forward to leading race operations and ensuring the continued growth and success of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.”

FIA’s Endorsement of New Leadership

Marek Nawarecki, the FIA’s Senior Circuit Sport Director, praised Elkins for his immense contributions to Formula E and expressed confidence in the new leadership:

“Scot has made a major contribution to the all-electric championship, shaping its development and ensuring high standards of race direction. His expertise and leadership will be missed, but I have full trust in Hanaczewski and Dupont to continue his legacy and drive Formula E forward.”

As Elkins prepares to step away from Formula E, his impact on the series remains undeniable. With Hanaczewski and Dupont at the helm, the championship is poised for continued success in the ever-evolving world of electric motorsport.
