Clemens Schmid, a member of the GRT Grasser Racing Team, will replace Timur Boguslavskiy in the #78 Lexus RC F LMGT3 for the remaining races of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024. Boguslavskiy, who has been with the Akkodis ASP team since 2019, has had great success, winning two GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup titles and finishing as runner-up three times in the Sprint Cup championship.
Due to illness, regular DTM driver Clemens Schmid was called upon to compete in the WEC’s 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps alongside co-drivers Arnold Robin and Kelvin van der Linde. Together, they secured a tenth-place finish. Boguslavskiy recently took part in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing seventh in the LMGT3 category with Robin and K. van der Linde.
Schmid has a solid GT racing experience, with a track record of participating in sprint and endurance events since 2015. He even won the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in the Silver Cup category in 2023. In his third season in the DTM, Schmid switched to a McLaren 720S GT3 EVO package with the Dorr Motorsport team and achieved his best position so far, finishing fourth in Race 1 at Zandvoort.
The WEC has concluded its European races on the 2024 calendar and will now head to São Paulo, Brazil, on July 14th for a six-hour race. Schmid will make his first appearance at this renowned circuit, and the calendar will continue with two more six-hour races at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, followed by the Fuji Speedway. The season will conclude with the traditional 8 Hours of Bahrain in early November.
