The seven-time champion expressed frustration with the team’s lack of consideration regarding his warnings about the new car for the 2022 Formula 1 season, under the revised technical regulations. The recent episode of Drive to Survive explored the tense relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, which led to his decision to leave. Hamilton recounted how he complained to the team, urging them to make changes to avoid a negative outcome, but they ignored his concerns. However, as the season progressed, they eventually admitted that he was right.
Mercedes has had a disappointing performance in the last two seasons with the W13 and its successor, both following a similar conceptual structure. As a result, they decided to change their approach for the 2024 season, and Hamilton is currently testing the new car. The team has undergone a change in leadership, with former technical director Mike Elliott leaving and James Allison returning to the position. The Drive to Survive series finished filming before Hamilton announced his departure from Mercedes, with Ferrari being his next destination.
Last year, Hamilton revealed that Mercedes has increased their collaboration with him and his teammate George Russell in the development of the new W15. Now they have more engaging meetings, where both drivers can provide input and address any questions or concerns from the engineers. Hamilton also expressed admiration for the team’s unwavering determination, even in the face of setbacks, after visiting the aerodynamics department.
