Santander Follows Carlos Sainz to Williams: A Multi-Year Partnership That Redefines Formula 1 Alliances

Williams Racing and Santander have unveiled a groundbreaking multi-year partnership, set to commence in 2025, coinciding with the arrival of Carlos Sainz to the Grove-based Formula 1 team. The announcement signals a significant moment for both Williams and the Spanish banking giant, as they join forces to elevate their presence on the global motorsport stage.

Sainz Steps Into Williams Colors with Santander by His Side

Carlos Sainz, fresh from a four-year tenure at Ferrari, made his first appearance in Williams Racing’s FW46 during a filming day at the Yas Marina Circuit on Monday. This marks the start of his integration into the team ahead of the 2025 season, where he will play a central role in Williams’ quest for resurgence.

In a seamless transition, Santander, a long-time sponsor of Sainz, has followed the Spaniard to Williams. The banking titan will feature prominently on the FW46 and future iterations of the Williams car, beginning with Tuesday’s high-profile post-season test.

Williams’ Bold Move: A Partnership Built for the Future

Williams Team Principal James Vowles hailed the partnership as a milestone in the team’s transformation.

“Williams Racing is proud to add Santander to our growing roster of iconic and innovative partners for 2025 and beyond,” Vowles said. “Joining forces with a global banking giant trusted by tens of millions of people around the world is another significant step in our transformation. We look forward to working with Santander to engage and excite fans in the years ahead.”

The collaboration is not just about financial backing but also about leveraging Formula 1’s expansive global platform to enhance brand visibility. Santander plans to capitalize on Williams’ presence to engage with fans, especially in key markets like the United States, which hosts three F1 races annually.

A Strategic Partnership: From Track to Market

The partnership will see Santander and its digital brand, Openbank, prominently displayed on the FW47, driver helmets, and team apparel throughout the 2025 season. The collaboration also promises exclusive fan experiences, including paddock access and driver events, strengthening the bond between the brand and F1’s passionate audience.

“This partnership is tactical and symbolic,” said Juan Manuel Cendoya, Global Head of Communications at Santander. “We are delighted to partner with Williams Racing to continue supporting Carlos Sainz in this new chapter of his career. Williams is one of the most historic teams in F1, and this partnership complements our role as the official retail banking partner of the sport.”

Santander’s Formula 1 Legacy Deepens

Santander’s move to Williams follows the bank’s recent multi-year agreement with Formula 1 itself, announced in September. The dual investment positions Santander as a dominant player in motorsport sponsorship, reinforcing its commitment to engaging with a global audience.

Eyes on 2025: A Fresh Start for Williams and Sainz

With a legacy team like Williams under new sponsorship and Carlos Sainz at the helm, 2025 shapes up as a pivotal year for the team. The partnership with Santander is more than a sponsorship; it’s a vote of confidence in Williams’ resurgence. As the team works to rebuild its competitive edge, the collaboration brings renewed energy and resources to help Williams regain its place among the F1 elite.

For Carlos Sainz, the move represents a fresh chapter in his career. With Santander and Williams fully backing him, the Spaniard’s 2025 season promises to be one of transformation, both on and off the track.
