Sanchez leaves McLaren after disagreements about position in F1.

Sanchez deixa a McLaren após desentendimentos sobre posição na F1.

McLaren made additional changes to its technical personnel in Formula 1, as David Sanchez will be leaving his position due to a disagreement about his responsibilities. The team brought Sanchez from Ferrari and Rob Marshall from Red Bull last season to create a three-pronged technical structure alongside Peter Prodromou. However, McLaren has now announced that Sanchez will be leaving his position after just three months to take on the role of Technical Director of Car Concept and Performance. To further strengthen and develop their technical model, Marshall, who joined McLaren at the same time as Sanchez, has been appointed as Chief Designer. Neil Houdley will now take on the position of Technical Director of Engineering, while Prodromou will continue to lead the team’s technical division in aerodynamics. In the meantime, Team Principal Andrea Stella will take on the role of Technical Director – Performance until a suitable long-term replacement is found.

Stella explained the reasons behind Sanchez’s departure, stating that a mutual decision was reached after discussions about his role within the team. “This restructuring of the Technical Department and the work model within the team demonstrates our commitment to continuously improve our technical capabilities and workflows for greater efficiency and effectiveness,” said Stella. “After careful discussions between David Sanchez and the Team Leadership, we reached a mutual agreement for David to leave the team. Through our joint reflection, it became clear that David’s role, responsibilities, and aspirations associated with the position are not aligned with our initial expectations when he joined us in February 2023. Recognizing this misalignment, both David and I agreed that it would be best to now go separate ways, allowing him to pursue other opportunities that can fully leverage his remarkable skills. We greatly appreciate the contributions David has made during his relatively short time with us and wish him the best in his future endeavors.” Sanchez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the team and acknowledged that the actual position did not correspond to what was initially imagined. He left with respect for the leadership, admiration for the dedication of his colleagues, and appreciation for the open and honest discussions that led to this decision. Sanchez also wished the team continued success as they strive to reach the front of the grid and looks forward to his next challenge in F1.
