Sam Lowes Shatters WorldSBK Superpole Record in Electrifying Triumph at Assen

In a jaw-dropping display of speed and skill, Sam Lowes has obliterated the lap record to seize his maiden WorldSBK Superpole victory at the thrilling Dutch round in Assen.

Riding for Marc VDS, Lowes delivered a mind-blowing record lap time of 1.32.596s around the high-speed Dutch circuit, leaving fans and competitors in awe of his prowess on the track.

Lowes’s stellar performance saw him outshine the current championship leader Nicolo Bulega by a razor-thin margin of 0.164s, securing his pole position for Race 1 later in the day.

Despite Bulega’s early dominance, it was Bimota rider Axel Bassani who threw a spanner in the works by compromising Bulega’s lap time, forcing him to settle for second place.

Meanwhile, Toprak Razgatlioglu, one of Bulega’s main title contenders, could only manage a third-place start for BMW, dashing his hopes of claiming the pole position.

Bassani continued to impress by clinching the fourth spot for Bimota, narrowly edging out factory Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista and Yamaha’s Andrea Locatelli by less than 0.050s.

The drama didn’t end there, as Danilo Petrucci faced disappointment with his previous lap being canceled due to track limits. However, he rallied back with a strong performance to secure the seventh spot on the grid.

Remy Gardner put on a commendable show by finishing in eighth place for GRT Yamaha, aiming to replicate his podium success from the previous year.

Alex Lowes rounded off the third row for Bimota, leading the pack ahead of GoEleven’s Andrea Iannone and GRT Yamaha’s Dominique Aegerter.

In a surprising twist, WorldSBK rookie Yari Montella of Barni Spark Racing impressed with a 12th place finish, overshadowing home favorite Michael van der Mark who settled for 13th place.

The lead Honda rider, Iker Lecuona, claimed the 14th spot, closely followed by Tarran Mackenzie who showcased a strong qualifying performance for Petronas Racing Honda.

With records shattered and expectations defied, Sam Lowes’s sensational Superpole triumph has set the stage for an electrifying showdown at the WorldSBK in Assen.
