Sales of electric vehicles manufactured in China by Tesla fell by 49.2% in February compared to the same month in 2024, totaling 30,688 units, which represents the lowest number since August 2022.
The brand led by Elon Musk is being affected by Chinese competition and a price war among smart electric vehicle brands.
Tesla, which produces the Model 3 and Model Y in China, sold a total of 93,926 vehicles made in China globally in the first two months, a decrease of 28.7% compared to the previous year, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The CPCA revealed that sales from January to February were distorted by the Lunar New Year holiday in China, which shifted from February last year to late January this year, and due to the partial suspension of Model Y production for assembly line upgrade work.
However, the Chinese rival BYD recorded a 90.4% increase in sales of light passenger vehicles during the same period, with 614,679 units sold last month.
