Sainz indeciso, negociando com Williams.

In the world of Formula 1, there has been much speculation surrounding the future of Carlos Sainz. With Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari in 2025, Sainz finds himself without a team. Rumors have linked him to several teams, such as Mercedes, Red Bull, Sauber (now known as Audi), and now Williams has entered the fray.

However, it seems that Sainz’s chances of joining Mercedes are slim. The eight-time constructors’ champions are taking their time evaluating their young protege, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. This leaves little room for the Spaniard to secure a spot at Mercedes, unless Antonelli fails to make it to F1.

As for Red Bull, their intentions regarding Sainz are uncertain. Mixed signals have been sent, but it is likely that Sergio Perez will continue alongside Max Verstappen for the 2025 season.

Currently, the most concrete offer for Sainz comes from Audi. It is a lucrative offer, but comes with risks. It is still uncertain how the German brand will fare when they enter F1 in 2026. Furthermore, the complicated situation at Sauber highlights the work that Audi needs to do to be competitive. These uncertainties are the reason why Sainz has not yet closed a deal with Audi.

According to a report from Motorsport.com, there have been talks between Sainz and Williams. These discussions have progressed significantly. While Williams may not be the ideal team for any F1 driver at the moment, their boss James Vowles has expressed his plans to transform the team, focusing on the 2026 season. Additionally, they already have Alex Albon secured in a long-term contract.

Vowles recently shared his plans for the future, stating: “The car for 2025 is in the tunnel, it’s as simple as that. And you’re doing this to get ahead of time for really 2026 and 2027. Throughout all my message will remain the same: it’s not that I don’t care about those years [before 2026], but I want us to be successful in the future. For that, I have to make some significant decisions to transform the organization.”

Amidst all the discussions, articles, and speculations, Sainz asserts that he holds the reins of his own future. Despite taking his time to deliberate, he ensures that he will not let any opportunity slip away.

He stated: “Behind the scenes, I have access to more information. Although there are rumors aplenty, rest assured that I will not disclose anything prematurely. I will carefully consider all available options before making the right decision. Once I open my mind to the possibilities, everything will fall into place quickly. It’s crucial for me to gather all the elements I deem necessary for my next contractual endeavor,” he elaborated.

However, the 29-year-old individual from Madrid emphasizes that he has not set a deadline for his decision. Given the current stage of his career, he understands the importance of making the right move.

He continued: “I have not yet made a decision. The location of my racing ventures for next year remains uncertain. I have no fixed deadlines, nor do I possess the necessary knowledge to impose them. However, I can assure you that, considering the importance of this decision at this moment in my professional life, I wish to have all relevant information at my disposal to make an informed choice. I intend to contemplate it carefully. As I approach my thirties this year, the next project I will embark on is something that I am truly excited and eager to see. Therefore, I will dedicate the necessary time,” Sainz concluded.

The Ferrari driver, who is leaving the team, currently holds the fifth position in the 2024 F1 Drivers’ Championship, with 93 points, despite winning the 2024 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne earlier this season. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, is in second place.

He was absent from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix due to surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
