A Scuderia Ferrari had a disappointing performance at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes outperformed the Italian team throughout the weekend. Leclerc and Sainz started the race in fifth and sixth place, respectively, after a weak qualifying session. Unfortunately, their race did not improve as they finished in the same positions they started. During the race, there was contact between the two teammates, resulting in minor damage to Leclerc’s front wing. The Race Stewards investigated Sainz for going off track and gaining an advantage, but did not penalize him. Max Verstappen secured his 61st victory in Formula 1 for the leading Red Bull team.
In the last races of the Grand Prix, there have been several battles on the track between the Ferrari drivers, and tensions may be rising. Sainz did not hold back his opinion about Leclerc when speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the Spanish Grand Prix. He expressed his frustration with Leclerc’s tendency to complain after races and stated that he was attacking at this stage of the season. Sainz made a successful overtaking maneuver on Leclerc while both were on used soft tires. Leclerc took a more restrained approach when talking about the battle with Sainz, stating that they would have a discussion and that everything would be fine. He acknowledged that they had planned to manage their tires during that part of the race and was disappointed that the overtaking put them at a disadvantage and caused damage to his front wing. Despite winning the Monaco Grand Prix a month ago, Leclerc admitted that his recent form is not strong enough to compete for the championship this year. He acknowledged that they are lacking speed and expressed their efforts to maximize their race as a team. However, they simply were not fast enough. Will Ferrari be able to revive their title challenge in the next Austrian Grand Prix, which starts on Sunday, June 30?
