Sainz: Ferrari updates will not solve performance limitations of the F1 car.

Sainz: Atualizações da Ferrari não resolverão limitações de desempenho do carro de F1.

Sainz believes that the deficiencies of the Ferrari cannot be solved through improvements during the season in the team’s SF-24 car.

Carlos Sainz stated that even by maximizing the most recent modifications of Ferrari, the problems with the Formula 1 car of 2024 cannot be solved.

At the beginning of the current season, Ferrari emerged as the main competitor to Red Bull, with Sainz and his teammate Charles Leclerc securing a victory in the first eight races.

However, despite introducing a significant package of upgrades in Spain last weekend, the Italian team has not reached the podium in the last two races.

Nevertheless, Sainz, who finished in sixth place, one position behind Leclerc, firmly believes that it would be premature to conclude that Ferrari now has the fourth fastest package.

When asked about the potential difficulties if Barcelona were indicative, Sainz stated: “If that proves to be true, then we can discuss it later, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

“Based on all our data, the new package was effective, which shows that all the improvements we have made to the car in recent years, in addition to the new car we introduced this year, still do not perfectly fit these long and combined curves, about which I have always expressed concerns.”

“If you remember China and Suzuka, I mentioned before those races that I did not believe they would be favorable for Ferrari, and that proved to be true.”

According to the Spaniard, the fact that Ferrari’s weaknesses persist despite the additions indicates that the limitations are inherent to the design of the SF-24.

“This simply demonstrates that even if the upgrades are successful, there are certain characteristics that cannot be solved with a simple improvement,” he continued.

“We need to work on the whole package to be more competitive on this type of track.”

Sainz emphasized that the vibration he encountered during high-speed corners in Barcelona is a challenge that the Maranello-based team must work hard to eliminate.

“I agree with Charles that our main problem is the combination of medium and low-speed corners,” he admitted.

“I still believe that the weakness of the car lies in high-speed corners, simply because I don’t like the possible slight jump that occurs, as it can affect the tires.

“So even though it doesn’t affect our speed in high-speed corners – we can potentially keep up with the pace of a McLaren or a Red Bull in those corners.

“But I’m not satisfied with how this jump affects the tires during qualifying laps or races. I consider it a relatively small weakness compared to the combination of medium and low-speed corners.

“However, it is still a weakness that needs to be addressed, especially considering that this is the third year under these regulations and we are still struggling with this slight jump.”

However, Sainz denied that Ferrari is going through a “bad phase” in terms of competitiveness and praised the progress that their rivals have made.

When asked if this could be attributed to setup issues, Sainz replied: “No. I believe our setup is the same as at the beginning of the year, we are driving the car in a very similar way.

“It’s the same car, we just made improvements to it, adding more downforce, but our competitors are also making improvements and improving their performance.

“That’s why it’s not a bad phase, it’s just that the others are doing an exceptional job.”
