Sainz expõe liderança alarmante da Red Bull no pelotão da F1.

Carlos Sainz, Ferrari driver, sent a cautionary message to the Formula 1 grid, stating that the wear of Red Bull’s Soft tires is incomparable to their competitors. Despite finishing the Bahrain Grand Prix 25 seconds behind Max Verstappen, Sainz managed to stay close to the Red Bull car, crossing the finish line just over two seconds behind Sergio Perez. Sainz expressed relief at receiving a Ferrari car that allowed him to attack, but acknowledged that they are currently not in a position to challenge Red Bull’s recent dominance in the sport. In the final part of the race, both Red Bull drivers used the Soft compound, while most other drivers opted for the Hard tire. Ferrari hoped that the degradation of Red Bull’s tires would hinder their performance in the final stages, giving Sainz the opportunity to pressure Perez using the more durable tire. However, Sainz admitted that this opportunity did not arise, as he observed little drop in the pace of the Red Bull cars as the stage progressed. During the post-race press conference, Sainz warned that he had monitored the degradation of Red Bull’s Soft tires during the three days of testing in Bahrain and found it to be identical to the degradation of Ferrari’s Hard tires. Therefore, when he learned that Red Bull had a new set of Soft tires for the final stage and Perez had them, he did not see it as a chance to gain an advantage.

Verstappen’s observation about the C3 tire during testing caught my attention. He realized that the Soft tire had similar degradation to the Hard tire, which did not excite him much.

Perez, on the other hand, could not easily distance himself from the chasing Ferrari of Sainz. He explained that it was challenging to get within less than two and a half seconds due to the negative effects of dirty air.

Being on the edge of two to three seconds meant Perez was experiencing the disadvantages of dirty air without the benefits of DRS and slipstream. This made his car slide more, and he believed that if he was within one second or five seconds behind, he could have shown the true pace of his car. Unfortunately, the range of two to three seconds was the worst position to be in, preventing him from mounting a proper challenge to Checo.

Despite not being able to challenge the dominant RB20 in the final stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Sainz remained hopeful that Ferrari could compete for race wins in 2024.

Sainz acknowledged Red Bull’s advantage in the post-Bahrain tests, estimating a three or four tenths advantage instead of half a second, depending on track conditions. He also noted that Red Bull kept a new set of Soft tires, indicating their intentions and plans.

Knowing how difficult it would be to beat the Red Bull cars, Sainz was pleasantly surprised to keep up with one of them and have the opportunity to fight. He believed their car was suited to the track, with high degradation of the rear tires. Sainz hoped that on tracks where front tires are more important and with better asphalt, his car would come alive, allowing them to challenge Max for the win.
