As the Tokyo E-Prix approaches, Fenestraz is hailed as a local hero, a tribute to his influential time in the Super Formula and Super GT series in Japan. Sacha Fenestraz, a prominent figure in Nissan Formula E, once shared a modest living space with Lando Norris, the McLaren F1 prodigy, during their early days in Guildford. Despite their rising careers, the duo managed to fit racing simulators into their accommodations, highlighting their unwavering commitment to motorsport. However, as Norris rose to fame, maintaining personal communication became a challenge, with Fenestraz and another childhood friend of Norris, Jehan Daruvala, noticing a significant decrease in WhatsApp interactions due to Norris’s overwhelming presence on social media. Daruvala, who will compete alongside Fenestraz at the Tokyo E-Prix, shares this sentiment, highlighting the difficulties in keeping up with Norris. Nevertheless, Norris keeps a close eye on his friends’ achievements, promptly congratulating Fenestraz on his pole position in Cape Town last season, demonstrating the enduring bond despite the shift in their professional dynamics. Fenestraz jokes: “He’s not the best at responding… We don’t try to contact him on WhatsApp because he just doesn’t reply! He’s a fantastic person, and we have a great relationship. When I got the pole position in Cape Town, he congratulated me… We don’t talk about racing… we prefer to catch up on life.” Fenestraz’s friendly personality mirrors Norris’s, serving as a cheerful presence in his own racing paddock. However, his on-track persona starkly contrasts with his off-track behavior, as evidenced during his intense debut at the Mexico City race, where his passionate radio outbursts inadvertently ruptured his race engineer’s eardrum. Reflecting on his expressive nature, Fenestraz confesses: “I express myself a lot over the radio, but maybe sometimes a little too much… I’m also surprised by how I react to certain things, but I like to express myself a bit. Maybe sometimes a little too much.” As the Tokyo E-Prix approaches, Fenestraz is embraced as a local hero, a testament to his impactful stint in the Super Formula and Super GT series in Japan. His experiences have not only earned him a substantial fan base but also reaffirmed his belief in the intense competitiveness and level of skill within Formula E, drawing comparisons to the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1. Fenestraz remains ambitious and introspective, aspiring to find a balance between his expressive tendencies and his undeniable talent on the track.
