After introducing the hypercar GB110, Bertone has now unveiled the Runabout, a model inspired by the Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept car designed by Marcello Gandini in 1969.
This new Runabout was conceived based on a “modern” chassis of unspecified origin, featuring an angular design.
The similarities with the original version from the 60s are limited to the silver and orange paint; otherwise, the overall look is more modern and streamlined. It is worth noting that the original 1969 Runabout was inspired by 1960s racing boats and was equipped with a bold 1.1-liter engine producing 55 hp, featuring a distinctive wedge-shaped design that inspired future classics like the Fiat X1/9 and the Lancia Stratos.
Now, the new version of the Bertone Runabout, which will have a limited edition, is equipped with a V6 engine producing around 500 hp and can be ordered in the standard “barchetta” configuration or with a removable hardtop, receiving the designation “targa.”
“The new Bertone Runabout is not just a car, but a tribute to the Italian tradition of iconic sports models. Crafted with precision, it celebrates pure geometry and design with just two defining lines — capturing the essence of elegance and the joy of driving,” said Bertone’s design director, Andrea Mocellin.
