The 2025 Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray delivered all the drama fans expected, with Chase Elliott securing victory and Ryan Blaney making an incredible charge from 23rd to 2nd.

But not everyone was thrilled with Blaney’s aggressive climb up the order.

Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain, who was running his first-ever race at Bowman Gray, found himself locked in a frustrating battle with Blaney—and he had plenty to say about the tactics that helped Blaney surge through the field.

Chastain vs. Blaney: The Battle for Track Position

Chastain, who started 17th, had to contend with Blaney rapidly closing in from 23rd.

Blaney didn’t go full-throttle aggressive—but he used precision, pressure, and patience to muscle past Chastain.

💬 Chastain on Blaney’s tactics:
“I don’t know what he had. I know he had a yellow car. When he got up to me in about 17th… seemed like he was able to push me all way down the track, gently, just stay in my bumper, from start to finish line, all the way round. Not comparing… The 12 stayed attached to my bumper.”

Blaney wasn’t outright wrecking Chastain, but he was staying glued to his rear bumper, keeping him from advancing while working his way forward.

This subtle but effective maneuvering gave Blaney the upper hand—and left Chastain frustrated but still in the fight.

Chastain’s Impressive Top-10 Finish

Despite Blaney’s persistent presence, Chastain held his ground and ultimately finished 6th.

For a driver experiencing Bowman Gray for the first time, a top-10 finish was an impressive result—especially considering the track’s reputation for chaos.

💬 Chastain on his performance:
“That was the best we were at the second half of the race all weekend. We tried to make adjustments, but we weren’t close enough in the qualifiers.”

Chastain’s adaptability and resilience proved he’s ready for a strong start to the 2025 season.

Bowman Gray’s Revival: Chastain’s Perspective

Beyond his personal battle with Blaney, Chastain recognized the significance of racing at Bowman Gray—a track with deep NASCAR roots.

💬 Chastain on Bowman Gray’s history:
“I think we’ve got a pretty good one here at Bowman Gray. When you look at the history and what the France family has done here… this is where the very first race was run. This is where Jim France came as a kid on his summer vacations with the family up here promoting races.”

As NASCAR embraces its history while pushing forward, Bowman Gray proved to be the perfect stage for an intense season opener.

The Verdict: Blaney’s Smart Racing or Over the Line?

✅ Blaney used patience and pressure to gain positions—without wrecking anyone.
✅ Chastain stood his ground and still finished 6th in his Bowman Gray debut.
✅ The Clash proved to be an intense, tactical battle, setting the stage for a thrilling 2025 season.

But did Blaney push the limits too far—or was this just smart short-track racing?

One thing is clear—the rivalry is heating up.

🚨 Will Chastain get his revenge next time they meet on the track?
