Felix Rosenqvist secured the top spot in the NTT IndyCar Series race in Long Beach, California. The qualifying session followed a standard elimination format, with the six fastest drivers advancing to the Firestone Fast Six to determine the top three rows of the grid. Rosenqvist, driving for Meyer Shank Racing team, clinched his first pole position in IndyCar with a lap time of 1:06.0172. This achievement marked MSR’s first pole position in the series and highlighted the promising partnership between Rosenqvist and his new team. Will Power came very close to securing the pole position, finishing just 0.004 seconds behind Rosenqvist. Power’s teammate, Josef Newgarden, secured the third fastest time, maintaining his strong start to the 2024 season. Colton Herta and Marcus Ericsson, both from the Andretti team, secured the fourth and fifth starting positions, respectively. Alex Palou completed the Fast Six, giving him the opportunity to build on his previous success in the championship. Unfortunately, Christian Lundgaard fell just short of advancing to the final round, finishing 0.019 seconds below the cutoff line and starting in seventh position. Kyle Kirkwood, who had shown promise in practice, failed to advance due to difficulties in finding a clear track during his qualifying lap. Alexander Rossi expressed disappointment with his performance, citing a lack of speed in his Arrow McLaren Chevy. He did not advance to the second round and will start in 13th position. Pato O’Ward also missed out on advancing to the next round by a small margin and will start on the outside of the seventh row. Theo Pourchaire, making his IndyCar debut, secured the 22nd starting position while substituting for David Malukas. As the current F2 champion, Pourchaire aims to avoid any incidents during Sunday’s race, with any position gained considered a bonus. The 85-lap event will begin shortly after noon Pacific time, promising an exciting race through the scenic streets near Los Angeles.
