Rolls-Royce has unveiled one of its most extravagant one-off creations yet, the Phantom Goldfinger, a meticulously crafted homage to the 1964 James Bond classic Goldfinger. Taking three years to perfect, this singular masterpiece celebrates the film’s iconic imagery, featuring gold accents, custom details, and even a solid gold bar hidden within.
Inspired by the 1937 Phantom III driven by Bond’s nemesis in the movie, the Phantom Goldfinger is a blend of modern luxury and cinematic nostalgia. The two-tone yellow-and-black exterior mirrors the vintage car on screen, right down to the number plate, “AU1” – a nod to gold’s chemical symbol. Each feature is intentional: the Spirit of Ecstasy gleams with gold plating, while speakers, climate vents, and the vehicle’s consoles are lined in gold.
Inside, the details are truly Bond-worthy. A year’s work went into crafting a stainless steel 3D map inlay on the dash depicting Switzerland’s Furka Pass, where Bond’s thrilling pursuit of Goldfinger was filmed. Above, a custom Starlight headliner recreates the night sky over Furka Pass on July 11, 1964, the last day of filming – complete with golden stars.
Then there’s the gold bar, a solid 18-carat masterpiece hidden in a secret compartment, valued at up to half a million dollars based on today’s gold prices. The glovebox reveals another golden touch: a debossed quote from Bond’s antagonist Auric Goldfinger. Open the trunk, and a gold-plated golf club is stowed alongside a fictional map of Fort Knox, taking six months to design, for a nod to the villain’s infamous heist plans.
Specially crafted 21-inch wheels feature “floating” center caps mimicking the vintage style, while the trunk displays the classic “007” logo projected onto the ground, a sly reference to the tracking device Bond planted in Goldfinger’s vehicle.
Nick Rhodes, Bespoke designer at Rolls-Royce, stated, “Bringing Phantom Goldfinger into being was one of the Bespoke Collective’s greatest creative journeys.” This incredible one-off is not just a car; it’s a luxurious reimagining of cinematic history for an unnamed British client who demanded – and received – the ultimate Bond homage. For those wondering about the price? While Rolls-Royce keeps it under wraps, estimates place it at a staggering $2 million, making it a golden addition to the Rolls-Royce legacy.
