Rockenfeller says sorry to Sims following IMSA Road America early race collision.

Alexander Sims, the driver of the #3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the GTD Pro class, has confirmed that Mike Rockenfeller has apologized for his mistake on the opening lap of the IMSA Sportscar Weekend. Sims was put into the gravel trap after Rockenfeller outbraked himself into Turn 3 and made contact with Sims’ Corvette. However, Sims acknowledges that there was no malicious intent and understands that mistakes happen in racing. Despite the incident, Sims praises the durability of the Corvette and commends the recovery crew for quickly getting him back on track. He acknowledges that a fifth-place finish is not ideal after starting on the front row, but he appreciates the team’s resilience and looks forward to the next race.

The #4 Corvette, driven by Nicky Catsburg, held its position on the GTD Pro pole, but strategy and a slow pit stop hindered their performance. The #3 Corvette, starting in second place, was also affected by the incident with Rockenfeller but managed to stay in the race. The #64 Ford Mustang suffered right-front suspension damage and required repairs. Despite the challenges, Tommy Milner showcased the impressive pace of the mid-engined Corvette package during the race.

After the contact, the #3 Corvette opted for an alternative fuel strategy, but they were unable to catch up to the top-three GTD Pro runners. Sims and his teammate Antonio Garcia finished in fifth position, while Catsburg and Milner finished in sixth place.
